Individual Psychotherapy – Adults

Individual Psychotherapy – Adults

Seeking professional psychological help is not easy—especially the first time. The idea of talking to a stranger about what causes you distress, discouragement, or suffering can in itself generate anxiety. Yet we all agree that if we had a toothache or broke an arm, we would promptly consult a dentist or an orthopedic specialist. Psychologically, many symptoms (depression, anxiety, etc.) signal that something is not functioning well in our mental or emotional “body” and may require intervention.

One of our primary interests as professionals at INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY CENTER is understanding how personality develops, what motivates us to be who we are, and why we behave in particular ways. We also explore why some people appear to be happier and more adaptable to life’s circumstances than others.

We view human development as an interactive, evolutionary, and systemic process, influenced by a multitude of factors—genetic, familial, interpersonal, social, economic, political, cultural, and technological—that can help us grow and evolve, but can also destabilize and unbalance us.

Terapia Individual

From our approach, individual therapy addresses not only present problems but also helps identify strategies to resolve them. In fact, most of our clients already know the strategies to solve their problems; the question is why they are not implementing them—which is precisely why they seek help. The process examines motivational factors and, more importantly, helps explore and adopt new perspectives on one’s life and key relationships.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I seek psychotherapeutic treatment?

This is not an easy question to answer. The most obvious reason is when we feel unwell and do not know why or how to fix it, and this suffering persists over time without resolution. This may include situations of existential blockage, difficulty making decisions, impaired daily functioning due to emotional or physical distress, or repeatedly engaging in harmful or unwanted behaviors. However, this is only a limited list of possible difficulties that may apply to some individuals. Suffering can take many forms, and every experience is unique.

What happens in the first session?

We explore your reason for seeking therapy, your background, and your goals. We agree on a working plan and next sessions; you’ll also have the chance to ask questions about the approach, confidentiality, and practical details.

What approach do we use?

We work with an integrative, evidence-based model: practical tools (e.g., cognitive and behavioral), emotion regulation, habits, relationships, and motivation for change. Not just “talking”: we train skills you can apply in your day-to-day life.

Is it confidential? Are there any limits?

Yes, confidentiality is the norm. It is only limited by legal or safety requirements (serious risk to you or others), which we explain transparently.

Will there be exercises between sessions, and what results can I expect?

There are usually brief practices (self-monitoring, coping exercises, sleep routines, etc.) to consolidate progress. Many people notice gradual improvements when they apply what they learn; we support you by tracking progress and adjusting the plan.
